It has been a long time that I didnt blog. Now,, It's about to end for me as an undergraduate student in UPM with the only thing left is final exam for my last semester. Is that fun ? Am I making the right decision ?

Right Decision ?

I still remember vividly when I start to register in 10th College, attend the orientation, where I meet my new coursemates and friends. My first lecture in UPM is Electrical Circuit Analysis course. Talking about electrical & electronics, it is my first choice to take electrical & electronics engineering in UPM but end up, being offered by Ministry of Higher Education of taking Computer & Communication Systems Engineering in UPM which is my second choice :(. At the first glance, I only think of completing my first semester in UPM with this course and then switch to MMU to persue Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree. I could not say here either I made a correct decision to continue my degree studies in UPM and choose not to switch to MMU.

I only realize that I made a right choice of continue my degree studies in UPM once I finish my first year after I compare the course outline with the course offered for Electrical & Electronics Engineering. From what I can conclude that, the degree that I'm going to earn after this is a combination of Electrical Engineering + Telecommunication Engineering + Computer Science. A further answer from GOD that I made a correct decision of choosing to stay on with my course after I got a scholarship offered. This motivates me a lot to study better and go beyond my limitation to discover my true potential in this field.

Second year in UPM, how I could describe this year ? It is an up & down life for me as an undergraduate engineering student. A good prediction while I played a parrot card before I continue my tertiary education after I finish my Pre-University studies. I start to understand, it is not an easy task to maintain a relationship with someone. A relationship needs a trust among each other, needs a daily cares among each other ,needs to share and needs a good communication as well as a good understanding.

CNY findings - Part 2

The next part, I will show you on how to dual booting your notebook or PC with both Ubuntu Linux Operating System and Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 Operating System installed on your notebook or PC.

In the first step, i made a space on my notebook specially for windows XP. In my notebook, i separated my 120 GB HDD into 3 partition, 1st partition = 30 GB (for Linux OS filesystem/dev/sda1 with filesystem ext3 ) , 30 GB (fow Windows XP filesystem - NTFS ) and 60 GB for the 3rd partition formatted as FAT32 so that both OS can accessed to the partition when either OS is booted. To create space for Windows XP, i resize my main Ubuntu file partition from 60 GB to 30 GB. In this step, I need a Ubuntu Live CD and If I done directly from the current system by navigating System -> Administration -> Partition Editor, the system wont allow me to resize the partition because the partition is locked. To resolve this problem, I use a Ubuntu Live CD, and choose the option "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer" . On the CD, navigate through System -> Administration -> Partition editor and start to resize the ext3 filesystem partition.

Then, boot into the current system, format the unallocated 30 GB HDD space to NTFS filesystem. To format the partition to NTFS in ubuntu, a file is needed. The file can be obtained and downloaded from the Synaptic Package Manager (System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager). The file are ntfsprogs and select the file, click Apply and the system would automatically installed the program on your computer. the unallocated 30 GB partition is formatted to NTFS so that Windows XP can be installed on that partition. To format the unallocated space to NTFS, navigate to Partition Editor Via System -> Administration and then right click on the unallocated space and chose Format to NTFS.

Next, the next step is to install the Windows XP. Pop the CD into your Optical Drive, go into the computer BIOS, and make sure that the optical drive is selected as the first boot device. THen, restart the system, and wait for the message "Press any key to boot the CD". Follow the instructions, and choose to install the Windows XP files into the partition with the NTFS filesystem.

Once the Windows XP installation is finished, the Windows XP will boot happily into XP with no sign of Ubuntu. In this problem, you need to restore the GRUB as the system bootloader needs to be reinstalled into MBR (Master Boot Record).

To make the Ubuntu and Windows XP dual boot, again the Ubuntu Live CD is needed. Boot the system from the Ubuntu Live CD and select "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer". Open the Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)

On the Terminal, enter to GRUB configuration mode. Type in "sudo grub" and press Enter. Then type the following commands in sequence

root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
quit
exit

Reboot the system. You'll get the GRUB bootloader but Windows XP won't be an option - we need to add this to the boot options. Boot into Ubuntu in the current filesytem and open the terminal, type the command sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst. You would be prompt to enter the password to access the root drive.

Scroll down to the bottom of the file and type in the following text strings:

title Windows XP
root (hd0,1)
makeactive
chainloader +1

Here,, i will explain the command highlighted above line by line.

"title Windows XP" line means label Windows XP as the title on the GRUB menu bootloader. "root (hd0,1)" line means boot to another partition place just below the main Ubuntu file system as ubuntu main filesystem, if Ubuntu is installed on the notebook/PC before the windows XP, the root drive would be (hd0,0). hd0 means that it access the first hard drive on your notebook or PC. If you have notebook or PC with more than one hard drive, the it would be labeled as hd0, hd1 .... etc.

For an example, from the screenshot above is my hard drive partition arrangement. From the screenshot, the NTFS partition is labeled as /dev/sda3. So, I need to replace the root (hd0,1) with root (hd0,2). "makeactive" line means make the root (hd0,1) active. "chainloader +1" line means read one sector from the start of the partition (See the link for more explaination http://www.linuxselfhelp.com/gnu/grub/html_chapter/grub_4.html)

Save the file and reboot. When the GRUB loader launches hit ESC for the boot menu. Windows XP is the last option - select it and XP will load.

If you want to make the GRUB menu always available, boot back into Ubuntu and edit the MENU.LST file. Find the hiddenmenu text string and change it to #hiddenmenu.

To increase the menu timeout, change the default timeout 3 to something more appropriate.

CNY findings - Part 1

During the CHinese New Year break, which is also a part of my mid semester break for this semester in UPM, I've decided to make my notebook dual booting with my Ubuntu Linux Operating System and Windows XP. At first, my notebook does not allow me to install the Windows XP operating system because of the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) /SATA driver defined by Intel. If the Windows XP installation CD is popped up inside your notebook which has build in ACHI/SATA driver,, then you may probably end up with the message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer" although actually there is Hard Disk installed on your computer.

To solve the problem, you may need the tools and the software listed below :

Notebook PC with AHCI / SATA driver
Windows XP installation CD
nlite software to integrate the AHCI /SATA driver with Windows XP installation files
Empty CD - R (700 MB)
Burning tools - Nero , Alcohol 120 % (For Windows) Or Brasero Disc Burning Tools (For Linux) .etc...

The first step is to download your AHCI / SATA driver from your computer manufacturer's website. In my case, I own a Acer Travelmate 6291, I've downloaded the SATA driver from Acer website which allow user to download its driver. There is a previous solution that you need an external Floppy Disk to install the SATA driver on the PC but in this case, you don't need anymore. nlite software solve all its problem!!

The SATA driver file need to be extracted by using UltraISO. the SATA driver downloaded will contain two zip file (f6flpy32.zip - for 32 bit Windows XP and f6flpy64.zip - for 64 bit Windows XP). If you are using 32 bit Windows XP, choose f6flpy32.zip and extract it, and you will find f6flpy32.exe, and the file is extracted again to get temp.IMA file. The temp.IMA file is then opened using UltraISO and then extract it into a folder (In this case I put in the folder named F6_SATA_driver). The next step is then is to integrate SATA driver into Windows XP installation CD using nlite.

Then, the nlite is installed on your notebook PC. The steps below guides you on how to integrate ur Windows XP installation files with the AHCI SATA driver obtained from your computer manufacturers' website.

1. The nlite is launched, click Browse to locate your Windows XP installtion CD and the folder into which your modification saved. The nlite will copy the Windows XP installtion files into the folder that you've specified (In this case, I named the folder WinXP[SATA].

2. Then click Next two times, two skip the import step. On the task selection window, choose Drivers and Bootable ISO option and then click next.

3. Click Insert and choose Single Driver, and locate the extracted SATA driver (In my case, I locate at F6_SATA_driver folder) and choose iaahic.inf file. On the driver options window, choose Textmode driver option and select the compatible AHCI/SATA driver (can be obtained your computer manufacturer's website) as different chipset used , different AHCI/SATA driver. Then click Next to continue.

4. On Apply Changes dialog box, then click Next to start the process and click Next after the process is finished.

5. After integrating the SATA driver with the Windows XP installation files, create an image file (.ISO) for your new modification Windows XP installer. Then the image file is burned into an empty CD-R by using your selected Burning Tools software.

Today I'm on the way to Bandar Baru Bangi to attend Raya open house,,, And is this consider my bad day ? I met with a f***ing woman ,, the way she drive, the way she overtake, the way she behave on the road, the way she talk, the way she present herself, the way she act in the police station and end up met with my first ever car accident...

How this happen.. I'm driving on my lane and I do not disturb other people's lane,,,but suddenly the f***ing woman, driving a PROTON GEN.2 came in from my right hand side (right lane) changed to left lane ,,,,overtake me to exit the roundabout with fast driving,,,,,and then ,,the result is ,, "BANG !!!"

Is her fault !!!!,,, driving in parallel with me,,,,,,trying to turn like a hero in F1,,,,,come on,,that is the public road,,nt your father road and we are not competing each other like in F1,,,,,

And end up,,,meet at Balai Polis,,,,,What The Hell !! Me and my coursemate suppose the case we shall win easily,,,since is her fault,,,,causing the accident to happen,,,,But end up,,I need to pay summon,,,Why ?? Because the police doesnt know how to do his/her job properly,,,,,,,

Look at the statement recorded,,is definitely is her fault !!!

Always said refer to book refer to book,,,, come on,,,driving is a practical,,and anything can be happen on the road,,why the book,,which is dead,can't speak, can't involve in the discussion like a human in debating each other,and just only a bunch of words are printed out,,can used to judge the case,,, And this time,,,the second ppl that I'm gonna to hate most,,,,met another F***ing policeman,,

With just this kind of phrase,,I lose the case,,,

To the f***ing woman,,old in aged,, PLEASE drive safely next time,,you are not qualified to overtake like Micheal Schumacher, Jenson Button or Mika Hakkinen in F1,,,,,

And there,,burned my $$$$ RM1XX for the summon ,,,, and I dont know hw much I need to fork out to replace the front headlamp, car tyre rim, and also the viper tank,,,,

Pre Internship - Trip to Genting Highlands

Blog,

Just after I finished my last paper , Digital Systems Design, I straight head off to Genting Highlands.. as a Pre-Internship Holiday Trip to relax my mind, free from stressful 14 weeks of studies and of course,, to get a COOL AND FRESH AIR up there..since KL DAMN HOT !!!

I started my journey from UPM around 4pm and reach the peak at 6pm sharp. I stayed in First World Hotel, which only cost RM78.00 per night !! Thanks *someone* for helping me to take all my individual photos using my Sony Cybershot T10..

All the way up to Genting Highlands with Genting Skyway, the fastest and the longest cable car in the South East Asia and also enjoying the cool and fresh air inside the gon dola number 84, sponsored by FUJIFILM.

The first thing we do is,, to check in into our room, Tower 1, Room 10-673 and then rest for a while, bathe after the two hour journey from UPM right up to Genting Highlands

Then we had our dinner at First World Cafe and the dinner of the day is Hot Stone Chicken Chop and Hot Stone Beef Steak. I suggest when you are going to Genting, this is the Special ONE..as you wont get to find any single outlet in Klang Valley serving this type of menu.

They served the menu at first with a fresh meat put on the top of the Hot Stone and and you need to make sure that the meat is cook on the top of the stone before you can enjoy the meal.

Thanks to lecturer in Dept of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering,, for cancelling class again,, and again, this time i rush to Sepang F1 circuit to catch the 1st day free practice session there.

Please keep the flag high...."

I travelled to there by using LCCT - KL Sentral Shuttle Bus.. Just ONLY RM18 return ticket. And is much much cheaper than driving alone to Sepang, which would cost you the petrol money and toll money which could hike up RM50++ per way and the parking fees over there ...another RM50 !!!!

Gear up to Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 2009

Malaysian F1 Grand Prix is here in Sepang again this coming weekend (April 3 - 5 2009).

As usual, there is a roadshow here and there everywhere around Kuala Lumpur to support the event and also to promote the event. And this time, I'm in Pavillion Kuala Lumpur, to catch up one of my favourite F1 team, ferrari and their drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa.. ( I don't have class today so I head off to Pavillion KL,,, where else... hehx....)

And there is,,, Kimi Raikkonen on the left and Felipe Massa on the right and Datuk Mokhzani Abdul Wahad !!

Their special apperance, is the courtesy of Shell Malaysia and was held in conjunction with Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 2009.

Their main purpose in Pavillion KL are to sign two sets of Shell-Ferrari Garage Set, Ferrari 2008 Year Books and Ferrari Caps which would be auctioned off for charity. Click here for more details. Unfortunately, there is no autograph session for the fans. Unlike for the BMW Sauber F1 team roadshow, they provide autograph session for the fans and I managed to get Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica last year at Suria KLCC.

Photo with Raikkonen and Massa ?? Hopefully the front side of the image above would be published in the local daily newspaper tomorrow !! For your information, I'm just stand behind Felipe Massa !!!!

Although I'm a bit dissapointed because I can't get an autograph from them, but at least I won something from F1 roadshow in Pavillion KL. C-DEX 2009 finish, UPM E-Charity Run 2009 finish, that is the end of my term as a Director of Publicity and IT for PEMAJU (Engineering Students' Society, UPM).

It is a time for me to rebound, put 100 % in studies and my coursework and I cant lose anymore,,
3 more weeks to go to end the semester 4, and say goodbye to the second year life as a Computer Engineering Student and say hello to third year. 2 more years to go, and I'M DONE.

Thanks for the Penang trip. It is a good place for relax before the test 2, coursework project and final exam preparation begins !!!

Someone gonna to owe me a meal if i get 4 flat this semester.. (I'll make it as the reality this semester.....!!) It motivates me !! Thanks....

Sorry for the late posting because of my hectic University Schedule and a lot a lot of assignments lately. Here, I'm going to share my trip to Malacca, (a IEM Graduate and Student Section - Young Engineers Section (YES) Student Representatives Council (SRC) Camp). This trip sponsored by the IEM Young Engineers Section and I only need to pay RM30 for this three days camp. I'm informed that this trip cost about RM280 per head but I only pay RM30 !!! Though the name is IEM - YES camp, but it doesn't, it is like more to trip to Malacca, and also a chance to build up my networking with other engineering student from other varsity such as MMU and UNITEN, and also from our neighbouring country university, National University of Singapore (NUS), representing the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES). The main purpose of this camp actually is to discuss about the problem faced by the university such as the IEM membership drive, and also to ensure that the date of each event organized by the student chapter of the university doesn't clash with each other.

Part 1 - 17th January 2009

This camp more like a trip to Malacca, because there is one session "Amazing Race - IEM version". My group not aim to be the first group to reach the finishing line, complete all the task given, but Jalan Jalan Cari Makan, and also tour around Malacca.

The first stop of our "tour" during the Amazing Race , was Dataran Pahlawan. Dataran Pahlawan is one of the shopping mall in the town of Malacca (Bandar Melaka), after Mahkota Parade, and these two shopping mall is next to each other, separated by the road name "Jalan Merdeka".

Next, is the Stadhuys, the famous red building in Malacca - the Dutch Administration Centre in the late 1600 but now is is a history museum there. Next to the Stadhuys is the Holy Place, a 256 years Christ Church, Malacca.

We also went to A'Famosa Fort, build by the Portugese in the late 1600.

To those who want to have a bird eye view of the town of Malacca, there is two options, either with the "Eye On Malaysia" or at "Taming Sari " Tower. Unfortunately, these two were under service when we were there and we cant have a ride on it !!!

We also had our stop during the half way route of the Amazing Race session at 88 Jonker Street cafe to have our tea break session with cendol, the famous dessert in Malacca. Yummy yummy, I like the cendol there. It is very cheap, 1 bowl == RM 1.70.

Then at night, after our dinner session at Baba Nyonya Restaurant (sorry, no photo are allowed), we went to the famous Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat in Malay). Wow.. I can feel the CNY mood there,, with lots of tanglungs n red lights as the street decoration !!!

Trip to Intel Penang, (PG12 - Penang Design Center)

8 January 2009, PEMAJU, the engineering society of UPM organized an educational trip to MAS (Malaysia Airlines System) in Subang Airport. There were 40 students from various engineering fields signed up for this trip, fully sponsored by Students Affair Division and I'm the one because I don't have lecture or lab on that day..

In this trip, we were exposed to their Engineering and Maintenance Department. We learned about their management system and have some short visit to some of their workshops. At first, we were warn by the signboard of "No camera and other cell phones with camera are allowed", but still, we manage to capture some pictures, because the tour guide allow us to do so.

The first workshop we visited is radio and communications department. The responsibility of this department is to maintain the radio and communications equipment available in the cockpit and to ensure the equipment works properly and well maintained.

Black Box

Black box, a tools to record all the communications of the pilot with co-pilot, control tower and etc, and also to monitor the behaviour of the aircraft and in case of an accident, the cause of accident can be determined. To read those black box and to do some data analyzing on it, they need a special laptop, looks like a normal laptop, but it is not a normal laptop. It cost about RM120, 000. Why so expensive ?? Because the laptop was design to suit the system of the aircraft.

The next and the final destination visit before we leave for UPM is the most interesting place, the MAS Hangar where all the maintenance and service of the aircraft being carried out here !!!

Not only that, we also managed to get into one of the aircraft, to visit the cockpit and also have a try to be in the first class cabin!! I never have the chance to be in the first class cabin before this , and today is the first time I'm there and also the cockpit of the aircraft, where the pilot control the aircraft so that we, the passenger can arrive at the destination safely...

Dong Zhi Day (Winter Solstice Festival)

Its the time of the year again. Dong Zhi ( 冬至 ) is the second most important festival of the Chinese calendar, after Chinese New Year.

Celebrated on the longest night of the year, Dong Zhi is the day when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest. The coming of winter is celebrated by families and is traditionally the time when farmers and fishermen gather food in preparation for the coming cold season. It is also a time for family reunions.

This celebration can be traced to the Chinese belief in yin and yang, which represent balance and harmony in life. It is believed that the yin qualities of darkness and cold are at their most powerful at this time, but it is also the turning point, giving way to the light and warmth of yang. For this reason, the Dong Zhi Festival is a time for optimism.

One thing is that Dong Zhi is always celebrated approximately between 21-13 December every year.

One important things that is not to be missed is eating TONG YUEN, where various colours gloutinous rice balls are cooked in a syrup flavoured in ginger. Here is a step by step guide on how to make a good TONG YUEN. Eating Tang Yuen is important in the Chinese tradition as it also signifies that we are a year older after eating this. Also Tang Yuen sounds similar to " Tuen Yuen " which literally means family reunion in Mandarin. Thats why traditional chinese makes it a tradition to be back and have a reunion dinner together on this day.

On this day also we use to pray and offerings are made to our ancestors. We've cooked spring rool, Chicken soup with abalone and dried scallops , fried vegetabeles, fried prawns , fish and steamed chicken. .

Before each semester began, I've set my own mission and my task is to make sure that it is DONE at the end of the semester.

Mission 1 : To get back my dean list and bring up my CGPA to first class CGPA (Completed)

I've just got my official result yesterday, and yes, I've got back my dean list and my CGPA is first class now after a slight drop during my previous semester. Now my task is to maintain it as I'm one of the Intel Penang Design Center Scholars.

Mission 2 : To get recognition from at least one of the computer giant company and to get a free undergraduate education (Completed)

I've achieved the mission 2. It is my long term goal while doing my undergraduate studies in Computer and Communication Systems Engineering. During my past semester, I was applying for Intel Penang Design Center Scholarship programme 2008. I've got the offer from them with the scholarship worth RM10, 000 per year. My Dream Come True at the end, with Intel, as Intel is the largest semiconductor company in the world. I've always thinking want to work for Intel, and thank God, I've got the recognition from them. Now my task is to meet their expectation as I'm going to sign the contract with them on 9th January 2009 : work for Intel Penang Design Center for 3 years upon graduation. I hope this would speed up my process, of getting the title "Ir" (a title for Professional Engineer) before the age of 30.

Besides, I'm one of the DiGi Student Ambassador (under DiGi Yellow Army Programme) in my campus, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). DiGi is one of the largest telecommunication company in Malaysia.

Mission 3 : Active in extra curricular activities and at the same time maintain high CGPA at all the time (Long term mission)

During my past semesters, I've participated a lot of extra curricular activities within the faculty and also the college. Being the Program Director for the "Career Guidance Talk in IEM", ad hoc committee member of E - Challenge 2008 (Director of Logistics Department), Publicity Director with the Engineering Students Society (PEMAJU)

All of the activities above strengthen up my resume as resume is one of the tools to sell myself to the market in the future. Besides, it also helps to develop management skills and also my soft skills. It is one of the greatest achievements for me, active in extra curricular activities and also balance up with the high CGPA at all the time. I hope this would continue in the next semester to come. Next semester I would be rather busy, as one of the Director for Career and Self Development Expo 2009 (CDEX 2009) and also UPM Charity Run 2009 Organizing Committee.

I've still have a long way to go in UPM as an undergraduate student,, it is still far away to accomplish this mission during the last semester

Friends,,

Before I began with my sharing session here, I would like to thank to my supervisor, Dr Nor Kamariah and Dr Micheal for sponsoring me to the ScoRED 2008 conference in Johor Bahru and also not to forget En Azrin Yang Garang for publishing the OBE paper for that conference. The conference was held in Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTM, Skudai, Johor Bahru from 26 - 27th of November 2008. All the expenses are paid by UPM and I don't need to pay anything for that conference,,, !!! he he he..

First Day

I had a nice accomodation there and we from Department of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering, UPM, stayed in a 5 star hotel in Johor Bahru which is Pulai Springs Resort and here is the snap shot of the picture inside the room that I stayed and its surroundings.

That is the 1st activity when I arrived in the Hotel at the evening,, Then at nite on the same day,, together with some of the International Student of our Dept, we had our dinner in Danga Bay which is located at the border of Johor Bahru and Singapore.. It is one of the Iskandar Malaysia Project and one of the tourist attraction place in Johor.

During the lunch time, I was surprised to met En Faisul Arif,, our microprocessor Lab Demo.. he also published and presenting his paper there with the title of Optimization of Fuzzy Rules in Fuzzy Controller System Ordinal Structure Model of Fuzzy Reasoning for Obstacle Avoidance Behaviour in a Khepler Mobile Robot.

And now is my turn to present the paper in a poster format since I was under the undergraduate category.

When I was presenting, many people thinks that I'm either a final year student, master degree or PhD student from UPM.. But I'm not.. I'm a second year of undergraduate student in the Department of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering, UPM.. Undergraduate also can produce a quality research mah,,rite ?? especially from KKK dept of UPM..

Although I did not won anything,, but it is a great experience for me. I can see on how is the regular or postgraduate presentation going on and it is just like we are doing a ECC 3002 presentation...

I also can add up my technical knowledge in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering field and I was impressed by the Robotic Team of UTM. I can say that,, actually and to be honest, UTM is the best place to study Engineering compare to others as their undergraduate project are SUPERB, especially for Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Engineering........

The conference is over and it is my first ever conference,, I hope there is more and more conference coming in for students to participate. I was inform that, next year UPM would be the host for the SCORED...perhaps, anyone of you could start drafting out the paper to be submitted next year ??Who knows u might get the Best Paper Award for Undergraduate.....

A night at Pavillion KL

I went to Pavillion KL jux after i finished my work in UPM with the Dept of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering as Research Assistant yesterday to celebrate my friends' 21st. They are wai kit, kyrina, sue ann, joeryn , mun lee and the birthday boy, kingsley....For the group picture,, wait for them to send to me as I did not bring along my Sony T10 digital camera together...

We had our dinner at "Wong Kok Char Chan Teng" , a Hong Kong's Restaurant located at Level 6, Pavillion KL. The restaurant was named after a one of the Hong Kong's district named "Mong Kok".

Many of the people said the price of the food there are very expensive, but it is quite reasonable... I had my good dinner there just less than RM 15.00 and thanks to the birthday boy, we had our free drinks.. and we had a FREE ASIAN GIANT GLASS MILK TEA.....

I would like to apologize all the blogger because I took the picture after the meal and not the beginning of the meal because I did not get used to it to took the picture while I'm having a dinner!!!! I would make that a habit,, take a nice food picture just before the I eat the food...

Right after the dinner, some of us went back , wai kit, the birthday boy, and mun lee went back home. Kyrina, Me, Sue Ann and Joeryn went to GSC Pavillion to watch James Bond Quantum of Solace after the dinner. I feel that number seven was my lucky number yesterday, I reached Pavillion at 7 pm sharp, watch 007 movie and have a seat at cinema at seat number C - 7...ha ha ha ha...... The movie ended at 12 am and I reached my home around 1am...

It was a tiring day, but I do have a memorable night ,, after a few months did not meet up because of busy preparing for the recent final exam...

Effective time management

I'm trying to balance myself with academic and non-academic matters, And i try out a new strategy this semester and it works and I want to further strengthen it... I realized that time management is important as an undergraduate student after I finish my first year of study,, Next semester I would be rather busy with studies and also working out for the CDEX - 2009 next semester as a Director of Logistics Department..

It is important as an undergraduate student to balance up with academic and non - academic matters, and I realize that,, it is very important after attending some few events with IEM and meet with some of the Professional Engineers !!! Just with one phrase "To be a good quality graduates in the workforce" ,, i believe myself , later on when I'm gonna to work, I still need to involve with IEM and similar here,, academic matters is my career as an engineer and non academic matter is equivalent to "IEM" stuff......

Here is what I've found from the internet,,

Strategies on using time:

Develop blocks of study time
About 50 minutes? How long does it take for you to become restless?
Some learners need more frequent breaks

Schedule weekly reviews and updates

Prioritize assignments
When studying, get in the habit of beginning with the most difficult subject or task

Develop alternative study places free from distractions
to maximize concentration

Use your time wisely
Think of times when you can study "bits" as when walking, riding the bus, etc.

Review studies and readings just before class

Review lecture material immediately after class
(Forgetting is greatest within 24 hours without review)

Schedule time for critical course events
Papers, presentations, tests, etc.

Effective aids:

Create a simple "to do list"
This simple program will help you identify a few items, the reason for doing them, a timeline for getting them done, and then printing this simple list and posting it for reminders.

Daily/weekly planner
Write down appointments, classes, and meetings on a chronological log book or chart.
If you are more visual, sketch out your schedule
First thing in the morning, check what's ahead for the day
always go to sleep knowing you're prepared for tomorrow

Long term planner
Use a monthly chart so that you can plan ahead.
Long term planners will also serve as a reminder to constructively plan time for yourself

I used to study at lab in my partition at most of the time, the place is very very comfortable to me,,,,and I hope it would be a permanent place till I've graduate from UPM ...

For the recent semester, I prepare myself with my own log book, so that I know what should I do the next day, what to study and what is the goal of each day and what matter to be follow up...and from this guideline, hope it would strengthen up my time management..

CDEX '09 Camp at Port Dickson

Dear Friends,

Port Dickson is my first destination for me to spend my holiday before I head to south on 25th of November 2008, which is Johor Bahru to present my paper for IEEE Scored 2008 conference. I went to Port Dickson as a part like a training and retreat camp for the top Committee of Organizing Committee for CDEX 2009 which stands for Career and Self Development Expo 2009 schedule to be held in Faculty of Engineering, UPM from 22 - 24th of February 2009. The camp starts with Ice Breaking session followed by Station Games (to relax our mind) before the real works begin, the brainstorming and discussion session for each Department for CDEX 2009 to draft out what to do so that there is a proper planning to run the big event in my faculty.

The End of the camp with Doraemon and Nobita games

After the camp, as one of the Director of the Department, I realize that a lot of things I had to make sure the task is carried out smoothly to ensure the success of the event with the help of my committee member and my sub department leader for Equipment, Transportation, Food and Beverages, Cameraman and Prize and Souvenir department. I had to draft out a good strategy for next semester so that I can balance up with my studies and also my task as a Director of Logistics Department for CDEX 2009.

Things have to do by end of this week

1. Digitize the draft of what to do for my department and inform all my sub department leader that had been discuss during the camp (DONE)
2. Make an appointment with Dr Iqbal and Dr Fauzi about poster development for my presentation during IEEE scored 2008 conference (DONE)
3. Preparing my own timetable when I get back to work as a Research Assistant starting on 17th of Nov and I hope my supervisor would approve it as I plan to have half day of Wednesday to do my paperwork for CDEX 2009.

Thanks to Encik Azrin Yang Garang, who give me a chance to write about Student Centered Learning (SCL) paper and to be presented under Engineering Education category and the another paper which was accepted by the chair of the conference is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Based E- Vehicle Tracking System and this paper is to be presented under Radio Frequency Technology category and thanks to Dr Nor Kamariah and Dr Micheal for giving me a chance to write this paper !!!

Title : Student Centered Learning : In the perception of first year students in Department of Computer and Communication System Engineering

Abstract :

This paper presents the students’ awareness and perception towards the implementation of continuous-grouped-self-learning (CGSL) in Department of Computer and Communication System Engineering, Universiti Putra

Malaysia

. CGSL system has been introduced in the department as a radical learning approach two years ago to align with the outcome based education (OBE). 29 freshmen took part in this study. In the findings, 51.7% of the freshmen are aware with the implementation of CGSL. More than 70% of the students partially agree with the implementation of CGSL system in replacing the conventional learning style. The readiness of the students to this innovative engineering education system is below the expectation of the department when only 51.7% of the freshmen and 63% of the juniors choose to accept the system. The remaining 48.3% and 37.1% of the freshmen and juniors respectively, doubted the approach could deliver the best for the students.

Title : Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based E-vehicle tracking system

Abstract :

This paper presents the implementation of the E-vehicle plate tracking system using the radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. With this system, the active RFID tags would be installed on each vehicle on the road and there is a potential of the active RFID tags replacing the existing of the vehicle road tags because each tags has its own unique number. This system can overcome the problem of the fake vehicle plate number and road tax sticker because the information of the vehicles is stored in the tags and are connected to the database of the system which is managed by authorized personnel. The database of the system contains all the important details of the vehicles and it is stored based on the unique ID address of the tag. The information of the vehicle can be retrieve by using the RFID reader. Thus, an accurate information of the vehicle can be obtained and it can reduce the number of the fake vehicle's plate , reduce the number of the stolen vehicles by reducing the time in identifying the original information of the vehicle due to some modification done by an unauthorized parties.

A Good Start....

Dear friends,,

I had one more paper left to complete my semester three here before I continue my job as Full time Research Assistant in my Dept of Computer and Communication System Engineering,, ,, So far I had sit for Electronic Devices and Circuit Theory paper,,which is quite easy, microprocessor, agriculture and man and seminar. I had my final grade for agriculture and man,, which I gt A- and seminar is M (memuaskan) .. For Agriculture and Man course,, most of my coursemates gt an A,,,but I fall in "unfortunate" group,,as only 3 people got A- for that subject...

Look, at the image above,,,there is a string of A,,,but I got A- as well with two others,,so unfortunate,,,, but Thank to God,,for this subject,, at first I don't think I can get A or A-,,but at last,,,yea,,I manage to get A-...

I hope there will be more good news coming in soon and I hope I can get back my Dean List,..

Short Gathering of SHS class of 2006

October 26, 2008, We have a small gathering among ourselves after being apart for more than 1 and the half years after completing Pre University Education at Setapak High School. There were Terry , Mun Lee , Jeannie (UKM), Wai Kit (UM), Yuh Khong (APITT) , Pei Pei (UPM ) and the rest are Sze Kee and Elaine. The gathering also is a time for us to reduce our stress in study week before facing for the upcoming semester final exam..

We had our gathering at 24 hours McD outlet at Petronas Taman Melati. To those who don't know who are them,, I share some picture with you guys...

Believe in fate or believe in yourself ??

On 22nd of October, I was doing my revision for my final exam at my own workstation at the wireless communication lab in UPM. Why I do have my own workstation ?? biasa lar,, Research Assistant mah,,,,, and some how ,later on met with some of the final year seniors also doing their revision and their project report there with the help of Micheal and Jin Hui.

Later on,, everybody turns to talk about believe in fate, or believe in yourself ? One of the FYP student ( I want to keep his / her piracy, Only me and he / she knows ), eager to know my fate,, and so, I provide her my D.O.B and the time I was born on that day and also let her see my palm..

Here is the result

c) LIKE THE PROBLEM TO AFFECT ME (Yea ,, I like)
d) LIKE TO ANALYSE THINGS (Yea,, I like )
e) HAVE A BIG DREAM
f) MY WIFE WOULD BE THE BOSS (which i do not think so,, I wish to be Single n Available all the time till I gt my Professional Engineer (PEng) status with title "Ir")
g) MONEY WOULD COME TO ME BY DOING BUSINESS (which I do not think so,, because I do not interested to involve in business and I prefer to do my career in engineering )
h) WILL HAVE THE BRIGHT FUTURE (who can predict the future ?? I don't think so,, everyday can change, and I do not think that my future would be very bright as I'm the one to shape it with the guidance of GoD)

So,, from the above, I'm the one who does not believe more in fate but I'd believe myself... I believe myself more because, I'm the one who will determine and achieve the GoAL , no one can control my life as GoD only act as my guidance towards my sucessful life. I do believe in fate,, but not that high as believe in myself...
